Am I entitled to legal aid if I don’t have money for a divorce?

MYTH: I’ve got no spare cash to get a divorce so I am entitled to legal aid.

REALITY: Not necessarily. Public Funding (Legal Aid) is means tested, but is based on many factors, such as what your outgoings are as well as your income and assets. Any savings you have will be taken into account. It is best to seek the advice of a legal aid solicitor who can explain further about the application process.

This text is an excerpt from the upcoming book Exploring the Myths about Divorce and Separation. The book, which is being published by Woolley & Co Solicitors, pulls together 101 myths and common misconceptions surrounding divorce, including the costs involved, and will be available later this year. More information regarding the launch of the book will be posted here: http://www.twitter.com/woolleyandco.
